If
we go along the street of Uritski to the river Kamenka,
cross through the bridge, and turn to the right on the Schmidt's
street, soon we would
see at the left the solitary Church of Holy Virgin Mary
Tikhuin icon (Tikhvinskaya Tserkov), which stands
on the outskirts of the town, on the site of the former
Saint Andrew Monastery (Andreyevsky Monastery), which
was founded in the thirteenth century.
The Church was built at the end of the seventeenth century, and originally
had a very tall tent-shaped bell-tower, similar to the one of the
Church of the Ascension. The Church's sanctuary has not survived and all that
remains is the slender main body of the Church. During Soviet time the Church
has been deprived by the altar part. Its walls are decorated with great taste.
Under the kokoshnik
cornice there are large triple windows framed by a single surround.
